Peer Review Process

Anuari de Filologia. Literatures Contemporànies publishes only original articles. It admits the presentation of papers that deal with the thematic axes of the journal, which are subjected to blind evaluation by two experts (double blind peer review) in each of the subjects. Once the scientific review of the articles has been completed, the corresponding evaluationsheets are issued.

Blind Review Warranty

As stated in the guide for authors (Submission Guidelines), the author must submit his article deprived of his personal data.

In the review process, both the identity of the authors, whose work is evaluated, and the evaluators are kept hidden.

Anuari de Filologia. Literatures Contemporànies periodically reviews the evaluationsheet and the quality of the answers to the evaluation reports requested.

Evaluation process of an article

1. Sending the original.

2. Blind evaluation of the original by two external reviewers (double blind peer review), experts in the corresponding thematic area. Within the review process, both the identity of the authors whose work is evaluated and the reviewers are hidden. The review process also addresses methodological aspects.

3. Send the result of the evaluation to the director of the journal.

4. Communication of the results of the evaluation to the authors:

- Accepted: An article is approved if the result of the two reviews is positive.

- Accepted (with modifications): The results of the reviews propose minor or substantial changes to the content by authors before the article can be approved definitively.

Not accepted: An article is declined if the result of the two reviews is negative.

Should the results from the two reviews differ, a third reviewer from the corresponding subject area will be asked, until a majority decision is reached.

Anuari de Filologia. Literatures Contemporànies will notify authors of its decision to accept or reject a paper within 40 days aprox. of receiving it.

The reviews will be evaluated by the management and / or the editorial board of the magazine.

Interviews will be evaluated by the journal’s editorial board.

Declaration of publishing ethics and best practices

Anuari de Filologia. Literatures Contemporànies subscribe the Declaration of publishing ethics and best practices for scientific journals published by the University of Barcelona.

The University of Barcelona promotes the open access publication of digital journals and endeavours to guarantee quality and conscientiousness in the transfer of scientific knowledge. The University is committed to ensuring that the articles it publishes and the publishing process itself observe the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). It is therefore essential that all of the stakeholders in this process—journal editors, reviewers, technical editors and authors—know and act according to the Code.

  • Journal editors should :

- ensure that the decision to publish is not dependent on the author’s race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnic origin, country of origin, citizenship or political persuasion;

- publish regular updates on the responsibilities of authors, submission requirements, the arbitration system used to select the articles and the evaluation criteria to be applied by reviewers;

publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies when needed and not make use of any article received for UB-specific research assignments without the author’s consent;

- guarantee confidentiality during the review process, meaning (a) the anonymity of reviewers and authors and the confidentiality of the content of the articles, the reports submitted by reviewers and any other type of correspondence with or between the editorial, consultant and scientific committees and (b) confidentiality in the correspondence between the author and the journal committees or reviewers when the author wishes to clarify, change or complain about some aspect of the article;

- make certain that the integrity of articles already published is respected;

- act swiftly to eliminate from the journal or refuse to publish any article that has been found to plagiarise information from other sources.

  • Authors should

- understand that they are responsible for all submitted content;

- notify the journal editors of any errors in their published articles so that the appropriate corrections can be made;.

- guarantee that the article and associated materials are original and do not infringe on the rights of third-party authors and, when there are co-authors, guarantee that the consent of all the authors is obtained before the article goes to press.

In the writing of the texts, the Criteria of the University of Barcelona must be followed.

  • Reviewers and technical editors should

- apply revisions that are objective, informed, critical, constructive and unbiased, where acceptance or rejection is based only on the work’s relevance, originality, interest to the public in question and compliance with the style and content regulations in the evaluation criteria;

- meet deadlines when this is possible and promptly inform the journal editor when it is not;

- avoid sharing, spreading or reproducing any information from articles still under review without permission from the corresponding journal editors or authors.

Editorial practices regarding gender equality

Anuari de Filologia. Estudis de Lingüística is committed to implementing gender policies that lead to real equality between women and men in our society. This commitment is reflected in a number of key actions.

  • Editorial participation

The journal will take measures to ensure a balanced gender representation, both on the journal’s different boards and among referees.

  • Inclusive language

Anuari de Filologia. Estudis de Lingüística adheres to the goals established by the United Nations whereby “using gender-inclusive language means speaking and writing in a way that does not discriminate against a particular sex, social gender or gender identity, and does not perpetuate gender stereotypes”. (https://www.un.org/es/gender-inclusive-language/index.shtml).

  • Sex and gender in research

When writing research works, authors must avoid gender stereotypes and biases whereby men are regarded as the universal point of reference, biological differences are exacerbated or socially constructed differences are seen as natural. They must also consider the sex variable in research of any kind concerning persons, animals, tissues or cells, which involves:

  1. Reflecting and making well-founded decisions on sample composition by sex and providing information about the sex of the subjects analysed.
  2. Analysing existing differences within each sex and presenting results disaggregated by sex.
