This article brings together, for the first time, a set of interviews granted by Italo Calvino to Spanish press and television; the latter, not available online, date from 1979 and 1981, respectively. The study of this material reveals two main significant elements: how much was known about Calvino in Spain and how much did Calvino know about Spanish-language literature. Above all, these testimonies convey the message that the author wanted to share with those who would read or listen to them. Taken together, all this constitutes a valuable previously unpublished testament, at least from the Italian point of view, which unveils another useful piece to the study of this twentieth century author, a name that has now become an international classic.
