Abstract

In Catalonia, translation has continued to play a key role in the publishing world in 2018 and 2019. Its importance is reflected by the total number of translated books published, which is still much higher in Catalonia than in the rest of Spain. English continues to be the most important source language, although other prominent languages appear in certain genres (for example, Japanese manga). During the period analysed, the volume of translations from Russian, Chinese, Japanese, classical Greek, Polish, Turkish and French stands out. Translation awards remain focused on literary translation, classified by source languages and genres, and awarded by institutions such as public universities. Research into translation continues to thrive, as demonstrated by the presence of specialist publications, scientific meetings, and doctoral theses.
