Resum

The article is an attempt to reconstruct the process of linguistic shift from Catalan to French in Northern Catalonia through indirect news, compiled in a corpus of texts and authors from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. We begin with the historical period before the introduction of the French language (late eighteenth and early nineteenth century), continue with references to the interruption of the intergenerational transmission of Catalan within the upper class of Perpignan (mid-nineteenth century to early twentieth century) and end with the expansion of the process throughout Northern Catalonia during the remainder of the twentieth century.
