This article offers an in-depth overview of the current status of the movement for sign language recognition all over the world with an explanation of language policy and its relevance to Deaf community activism. Different levels of recognition are explored, along with the benefits and limitations for each one. Various strategies undertaken by Deaf communities and the results of the same strategies are also covered, along with thoughts on the future of sign language recognition.
