Ten years on, the service-learning project at the Blood and Tissue Bank continues to take place in the different centres throughout Catalonia. This article seeks to review the trajectory that the project has followed since its inception, the different moments that shaped its development and turned it into what it is today: a point of reference for many educational or social organisations. The article explains how the idea was conceived, articulated and developed; what steps were followed and what elements have been key to its consolidation. In short, we discuss how a non-educational entity transitioned into an educational one in order to address a critical need —a shortage of blood donations— by strengthening the educational and social environment through service-learning.
