El legado filosófico de Merleau-Ponty ante el dilema fundamental de nuestro tiempo

Maurice Merleau-Ponty belongs undoubtedly to the canon of eminent classical philosophers, but in the year marking the hundredth anniversary of his birth the actual validity of his thought cannot be taken for granted any longer. In order to assess it as objectively as possible, we have decided to examine a hotly contested philosophical debate of our time in the light of his philosophical heritage. It is well known, indeed, that those who pretend to elucidate knowledge and action from a subjectivist and internalist viewpoint wage a merciless war against those who defend objectivist or externalist approaches. Thus we first expound in some detail the doctrinal core of Merleau-Ponty’s thought, whose main thrust we then apply to sketch a suitable solution to the controversy between immanentist and contextualist standpoints.
