This text deals with the short stay of María Zambrano in Santiago de Chile between 18 November 1936 and 19 June 1937, and presents two hypotheses: 1, that the human and collective experience of solidarity that Zambrano found in Chile is the basis for her future ideas on the relationship between Latin America and Spain as a ‘motherland’; 2, that at this time, also, and very significantly, the author experiences solidarity of the partner and intellectual dialogue together with her then husband, the historian Alfonso Rodríguez Aldave.
