This article proposes a switch in point of view to analyze María Zambrano’s essay: from a focus on her intellectual figure or on the content of the text (her thought), to a focus on the reader. From the perspective of the aesthetics of reception (Wolfgang Iser) and other related theoretical approaches (Gérard Genette), the analysis of the prefaces to her books reveals the central role that the reader has in the nature of the Zambranian essay.
