This paper proposes to examine what concept María Zambrano developed about the Spanish nation in her various essays based on the contributions of Miguel de Unamuno and Benito Pérez Galdós. His conception of essentially Spanish thought as poetic, literary or mystical differs greatly from that of other contemporary philosophers, such as Ortega y Gasset or Eduard Nicol; and yet he almost completely agrees with the conceptions of his friend and correspondent Josep Ferrater Mora.
