Zambrano’s Roman exile could be divided into three moments: the first, between 1949 and 1950; the second and longest one, between 1953 and 1964, and the third, between 1972 and 1973. Those were years of writing, conversation and collaboration with numerous contemporary Italian magazines, among them Botteghe Oscure, directed by the “principessa” Marguerite Caetani. This paper presents a study of the context and the modalities in which this collaboration was born and developed, paying particular attention to the relationship between Zambrano, the Spanish exile Diego de Mesa, Elena Croce, and Marguerite Caetani.
