Abstract

Abstract: The approach is semiotic. The starting point, Charles S. Peirce’s classification between icon, index and symbol. The result, a consideration of the nature of laughter within the cinema—applicable to other artistic forms—, to which a suggestive clarification is added about the generic difference between the “gag comedy” and the more elaborated "comedy".
