This paper considers another among all the possible paths when contemplating Andrei Tarkovsky’s oeuvre: one that takes as a starting point a difficult relationshipwith language, both an object of distrust and fascination for the Russian filmmaker. Muteand stuttering characters, conversations around translation and speech, the use of voiceover and the structure of his works help us observe his filmography from the perspectiveof this essential concern, which affects content and form and ultimately represents ameditation on the very nature of creation.
