The Mirror (1974), by Andrei Tarkovsky, is a film put together in an unorthodox way, just as the conception of the script and its shooting was also unusual and unique. What is its genre? Is it drama, lyrical or epic? Is it a documentary or a plot? Is it a fiction documentary, a fake documentary, or maybe a film essay? Is it experimental or underground? The questions could be infinite, and this is one of the most significant artistic features that mean this film, one of the most disturbing from the second half of the 20th century, maintains relevance and devotion from its audience.
Keywords: The Mirror, Tarkovsky, poetic logic, hybrid genre, dream film.
