In this article, we analyse Arnold Schönberg’s stay in Barcelona and the impact of his works and theories on musical programming and Catalan composers from the first third of the 20th century until 1960s. We pay special attention to Schönberg’s influence in the transformation of contemporary music and in prominent Catalan composers, such as Robert Gerhard, Joaquim Homs and Josep Soler. This is considered within the relevant historical and artistic context, related to the composer Jaume Pahissa and the painter Pablo Picasso.
