Les condicions del canvi social. Ecologia, ontologia i materialisme a les teories sobre la cultura

Aquest assaig crític examina, a través d'una exploració teòrica i bibliogràfica, la revisió de la dicotomia natura/cultura proposada pel gir ontològic. En primer lloc, es subratlla la tendència d'inferir una teoria ideogràfica del canvi social de la revisió d'aquesta dicotomia i de recórrer a malentesos en la interpretació del materialisme per tal de sostenir-la. la deconstrucció de la dicotomia es limita a l'anàlisi de les preses de decisions quotidianes i aquestes no intervenen en els processos de canvi social (que aborden les teories materialistes); al contrari, les teories en què l'ecologia és una variable independent en l'explicació de les conductes socials són compatibles amb la hipòtesi de la “construcció cultural de la natura”. Les teories del conflicte i les teories funcionalistes són capaces de reconèixer les relacions socioambientals com a interaccions mediades culturalment dins d'un entorn socialment modificat. En segon lloc, l'assaig ofereix una crítica a la manera en què aquest enfocament ideogràfic ha arribat a promoure la recursivitat per reflexionar sobre la crisi ambiental. Es planteja la qüestió de si el gir ontològic és capaç d'identificar les causes de la crisi ambiental i de proporcionar respostes substancials a través del diàleg amb ontologies no naturalistes. Se sosté que les ontologies manquen per si mateixes d'eficàcia causal; és la relacionalitat del camp social en el qual se sancionen les interpretacions de les ontologies la que condicionen la interacció amb l'entorn.
