Expert evaluation process

The originals presented in the Ebre 38 go through a confidential and anonymous evaluation system (double-blind peer review) with two external evaluations of a thematic and methodological nature. The editorial board evaluates the evaluations received and sends them to the authors with the provisional decision on their publication, as well as the indications and/or modifications that must be made: corrections, replies and final decision on publication.

1. Submission of papers: The author or submitter submits the article to the journal through the platform.

2. Evaluation of writing: It is checked whether the article complies with the guidelines of the journal. Item quality is not assessed at this point.

3. Evaluation by the editor: The article is checked for appropriateness for the journal. Otherwise, the document may be rejected without further review.

4. The Publisher will assign an Associate Publisher

5. Invitation to reviewers: The editor sends out invitations to people he thinks might be appropriate reviewers. As responses are received, further invitations are issued, if necessary, until the required number of acceptances is obtained; usually two.

6. Response to invitations: Potential reviewers consider the invitation, analyze potential conflicts of interest, and their availability.

7. Review Phase: If significant issues are found at this stage, the reviewer may retract the article. Otherwise, a detailed point-by-point review will be conducted. The review is then sent to the journal, either with a recommendation, or with a review request (usually marked as major or minor).

8. The journal evaluates reviews: The editor considers all returned reviews before making an overall decision. If the reviews differ greatly, the editor may invite a reviewer to get an additional opinion before making a decision.

9. Decision communicated: The editor sends an email with the author's decision, including the reviewer's relevant comments.

10. Next steps: If accepted, the job is sent to production. If the article is rejected or returned for major or minor revision, the editor must include the reviewers' comments to help the author improve the article. Reviewers will receive a new version, unless they have opted out of further participation. When minor changes are requested, this review may be performed by the publisher.
