During the Spanish Civil War the judicial system in Catalonia suffered diverse alterations, passing from the Popular Revolutionary Justice, to the creation of the Popular Jury for the Repression of the Fascism. These juries led to the creation of the so-called “Tribunals Populars especials” that continued judging cases of military rebellion until March of the 1937. On the other hand, in October of 1936 the popular courts for civil crimes were created. With the adaptation of the popular justice to the regulation of the Government of the Republic, these courts will lose importance until the creation in summer of the 1937 of the Special Court of Espionage and High Treason, the Special Courts of Guard and the new Service of Military Investigation (SIM), that will create a state of tension and insecurity, being very hard in their prison sentences.
