We propose to explore here the complexity of female labor in the north of the province of Buenos Aires, and its evolution between two extreme dates: 1869 and 1895, dates that correspond to the first two Argentine national censuses. We will rely on the census records of San Vicente, a representative rural area and in the process of urbanization that receives an important migratory flow at that time. We will analyze the evolution in the productive activities of the population as a whole, paying particular attention to the feminine tasks and their characteristics according to the civil status and nationalities in order to detect the changes produced during that period of important social and economic transformations.
