The study examines the effects of the phylloxeric crisis over the wines of Minorca. We analyse the determinants of the antiphylloxeric fight in the Balearic Islands, where defensive measures were independent on each island, and the impact of the arrival of the plague in Mallorca on the smaller islands.
It is also studied the consequences of the disease on the wine market through advertisements in the press, so that the appearance of the insect in Spain favoured domestic production. It also shows how, in parallel, a process of technical improvement tended to increase yields.
