In her text “Las obreras del pensamiento en la América del Sur”, Clorinda Matto de Turner sets out a canon of 19th century Latin American women writers. Rosario Orrego de Uribe, Lastenia Larriva de Llona and Josefina Pelliza de Sagasta were among the writers she cited. These authors wrote serialized novels in which, through the protagonists, they analyzed the role of women in their time. The model of “the angel in the house” was the reference point for women, but they proposed its re-writing and, thus, their novels are loaded with ambiguities and paradoxes.Downloads
