Mujeres que amaban a mujeres. Saberes eruditos y experiencias femeninas en torno a la práctica del homoerotismo femenino en la España moderna
Keywords:
female sodomy, sexuality, female spaces, Early Modern SpainAbstract
This article explores the doctrinal documentation engendered on the phenomenon of female sodomy in order to reveal what issues proved to be substantial to define the crime in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Spain. Based on archival evidence from court trials, the article also adresses the sexual experiences of women allegedly accused as sodomites. Conceptions, attitudes, and behaviors shown by the legal sources allow us to determine the limits of scholarly definitions on female sodomy, as well as the complexity and diversity of meanings that this sexual practice implied for the protagonists.Downloads
