Abstract

The presence of Lorenza de la Cerda (1666-1697) in Rome, from the time of her wedding with Filippo Colonna (1663-1714) in 1681 until her death in 1697, allows us to interpret some changes in the way the Spanish community surrounding the Ambassador, VII Marquis del Carpio (1677-1682), presented itself to the rest of Roman society. The introduction of certain Spanish habits, such as night walks, the way of dressing or the representation of comedy in Spanish, can be interpreted in connection with the attempts of the Ambassador to please the daughter of the Prime Minister in order to increase his chances of returning to the court in Madrid. The presence of Lorenza is analyzed from two perspectives; firstly, that of the Italian court of the Colonna, as condestablesa and heiress of Mary Mancini; and secondly, from that of the Spanish court of the Ambassador VII Marquis del Carpio.
