This article analyzes the signifi cance of Catalan women who took part in the War of Spanish Succession on the Habsburg side, from 1706 to 1714. Th eir role was fundamental in providing resources during sieges and as stimulous for resistance and social cohesion. Its research builds on the chroniclers of the war and on polemical brochures kept in the «Bonsoms Collection» (Biblioteca Nacional de Catalunya, Barcelona). Rather than an exercise in gender history, this article is intended as an attempt of social history on the role of women in early eighteenth century Catalan society.
