The present article analyses the preparations for the commission that Philip IV organized in 1652 in order to arrange the issue of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary at the Vatican. Th e main representative was the archbishop of Valencia, Brother Pedro of Urbina, renowned through his commitment and devotion to the Marian mystery, being a faithful follower of saint Francisco. Th is was later shown by his stage at the convent of San Diego, in Alcalá de Henares, or by his role in the board that had been counseling the crown in this matter for decades.
