Historiografía y dedicatorias en la Monarquía Hispánica del siglo XVII

My point of departure is the assumption that a work of history can be understood as a (semi-voluntary) discursive sign emerging from a given socio-economic milieu (in this case, the confessional Spanish monarchy of the Baroque age, with an aristocratic hegemony). How the explicit or implicit influence of the different power centres and cultural referents which shaped the writing of history books is to be measured? This is the reason why I study the socio-political profile of the dedicatees of 143 dedications of texts written between 1580 and 1684 in the peninsular kingdoms of the Monarchy of Spain. I also analyze the elective affini ties among types of books, places of origin and preferential dedicatees. I thus ar gue in favour of a neglected way of socio-cultural approach to historiography, with the purpose of promoting further, wider studies.
