Historical climatology is a speciality of Palaeoclimatology that deals with the reconstruction of extreme weather events and climatic variability from information contained in historically documented sources. It is based on interdisciplinary work with singularities that are often at odds with standard academic procedures. The application of very diverse techniques and methodological procedures are required and this makes it difficult to generate scientific results comprehensible within the framework of conventional disciplines. The present paper offers a general overview of the difficulties confronting historical climatology, proposes solutions and highlights new challenges within the specific context of the Spanish university.Downloads
