The paper studies the conflict between the charterhouse of Santa Maria de Montalegre and the towns of Santa Perpetua de Mogoda, Sant Fost de Campcentelles, Cabanyes and Martorelles about exemption of military billeting in Mogoda’s house, the most important property of the monks in this area. The royal request to quarter some soldiers in these towns by the end of the War of Succession (1712-1713) and the refusal of Montalegre to accept none of them in spite of the local authority resolution caused an important popular riot against exemption privilege. In a situation of weak public order, the conflict increased up to violent occupation of Mogoda’s house by a group of a hundred armed inhabitants. We analise the events, the juridical arguments of the two parts and the resolution of Bourbon authorities.
