During the 16th and 17th centuries, the rivalry between the Spanish and Du French monarchies was the central axis of the international relations in Europe. There can be no doubt that, in this conflict, the United Provinces played a basic role. This article analyzes the complex paper developed played by the Provinces United in the War of Spanish Succession, and how this positioning greatly affected the political and economic relations in Europe at the beginning of the 18th century.
