From Carpio to Avellaneda. García de Haro (1588-1670), a periplus of youth
This paper draws the reader’s attention to the ways by which a Spanish courtier interiorized diverse life experiences: the aggregation of noble kinship houses to lineages, a personal calling for knowledge, and a process of chivalric ennoblement. It is centered on the education and early trajectory of García de Haro y Avellaneda in the overlapping years between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Set within a biographical outlook, the story points out the following topics: land and sacredness, upbringing and education, first judicial performance, and kinship and ennoblement.
