Abstract

The Diplomacy of the Consell de Cent of Barcelona (16th-17th Centuries).   In the last two decades, studies have been published on the procurators of the Hispanic Monarchy who circulated between the communities of subjects and the court throughout the16th and 17th centuries. The Consell de Cent of Barcelona sent procurators with the title of síndics or ambassadors, depending on the case, to defend its own interests, but also those ofother Catalan municipalities. This mechanism has aroused little interest and has been considered a practice designed to mitigate royal absenteeism and the rarefaction of the Cortes. Without denying this important dimension, this article aims to highlight the fact that this diplomacy was also a tool that allowed the Consell de Cent to interact with the other communities of subjects, both at court and between the different political centres of the Crown of Aragon.
