Special Topic - From stories to tourism management: film and literary tourism
Literature and cinema have a significant influence on our gaze, redefining the landscape and generating places whose meaning is closely related to fictional stories. The tourism sector is increasingly aware that this semantic potential of literature or cinema might benefit destinations thanks to their capacity to generate new tourism products based on literary works, films, series, and any other products that link the territory with a fictional story.
This relationship between tourism, literature, and audiovisuals not only provides the capacity to create new products but also to generate new destination images and attractions, diversify the offer, or redistribute the tourism activity, among others. These aspects show how the inclusion of literary and audiovisual stories in tourism offers new resources to tourism management to develop a more unique, competitive, and sustainable offer.
This issue, from Tourism & Heritage Journal, is organized after the celebration of the I International Congress of Literary and Cinematographic Tourism, held at the CETT Barcelona School of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy in January 2024. Taking over from the conference discussions, this VI issue aims to include manuscripts that reflect on the potential of literary and cinematographic tourism from any point of view.
