Abstract

Spoken language research has advanced by leaps and bounds in recent decades. As with any exploration undertaken within our discipline, its progress has derived from our ability to identify, in spoken discourse, features which enable us to attribute certain specific characteristics, made up of a set of correlations between formal and functional aspects, to this new object of study, which, thanks to the extraordinary reception given to the theoretical framework outlined by Koch and Oesterreicher (1985, 2007 [1990]), we now know it is possible to conceive of from at least two different points of view: from a medial point of view and from a conceptual point of view.
