Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The manuscript has not been published yet nor sent to any other journal (or an explanation has been provided in the section "Comments to the editor").

  • The manuscript is send in Word, RTF or WordPerfect format.

  • The manuscript meets the requirements on style and citations from the section "Author Guidelines" and references' URL have been provided whenever possible.

  • Tables and figures are included in the manuscript when possible.
  • Authors' personal data and afilliationare placed in the first page, which is separated from the body of the manuscript as it is required in the section "Manuscripts presentation" in "Author Guidelines".

  • For those manuscripts that are sent to sections reviewed by experts, instructions on "How to ensure a blind review" have been followed.

PUBLISHING REQUIREMENTS FOR AUTHORS

MUSAS. Research Journal on Women, Health and Society

 Authors should carefully read these guidelines before submitting their work in order to ease the process.

This journal publishes research works that are carried out with qualitative, quantitative or both methods, as well as bibliographic reviews and historical, ethical or anthropological researches on women, health and society.

Clinical cases or research projects that do not include results are NOT admitted.

There are NOT submitting and processing charges.

 

JOURNAL SECTIONS

Originals

Research projects carried out with qualitative, quantitative or both methods, as well as historical, ethical and anthropological researches on women, health and society are admitted in this section. The manuscript should not exceed 5.000 words (excluding abstract, bibliography and figures and/or tables). There should be a maximum of 60 references and 6 figures and/or tables.

Original papers that include or derive from fieldwork should have the following structure: Introduction, Materials&Methods, Results and Discussion. This scheme is also recommended for any other modality, if possible.

Bibliographic Reviews

This section includes in-depth studies of specific topics elaborated from a rigorous review of the bibliography published to date. The manuscript should not exceed 4.000 words. Authors are encouraged to publish not only bibliographic reviews, but also any other type of review that counts with all rigour controls: systematic, integrative, narrative…

 

MANUSCRIPT PRESENTATION

Manuscripts should be written in 1.5 spacing and Times New Roman 12. They should be presented in DINA-4, with margins over 25mm and paged.

In the drafting of texts, the criteria of the University of Barcelona regarding "Conventions": "Abbreviations" and "Non-sexist use of language" must be followed. You can consult these criteria at the following link: https://www.ub.edu/cub/criteris.php

Language: manuscripts should be submitted in Spanish, Catalan or English.

First page: the following data should be orderly indicated:

 

  • Title
  • Name and surname of every author (if both surnames are used, they should be linked with a hyphen in order to be identifiable in international indices).
  • Institutional affiliation of every author (academic qualification, complete name of the department or workplace and location).
  • Corresponding author’s name, affiliation, e-mail and phone number.
  • Financial disclosure (full or partial)
  • Conflict of interest among any researcher and the potentially involved companies.
  • Authors should also declare that the manuscript has not been published yet nor has it been simultaneously submitted in any other journal. Admitted manuscripts will become property of MUSAS.
  • It should also be declared whether the manuscript has been presented in any conference as an oral communication or poster.
  • At the end of the first page there should appear the word count of both the abstract and the manuscript, excluding bibliography and tables.

 

Second page: the abstract and keywords should appear here. Its length should adjust to the type of contribution (see below “Manuscript Structure”).

Third and successive pages: the body of the manuscript should be placed here and it should be structured according to the papers’ section and nature. References will be included in a new page after finishing conclusions.

Figures and tables should be included in the manuscript and all of them should be numbered and referenced within the text.

 

MANUSCRIPT STRUCTURE

Title

It should briefly and concisely state the manuscript’s content and it should provide the most information with the least words (it should not exceed 15). Acronyms should not be included.

Abstract and Keywords

Originals. The abstract (between 200 and 250 words) should include the maximum information so that the reader can gain a clear idea of the manuscript’s content. If the manuscript includes fieldwork, the abstract should contain the following sections:  Objective, Materials&Methods, Results and Conclusions. Whenever possible, other modalities should also be structured according to these sections. Following the abstract, between 3 and 6 keywords should be cited. They should be clearly related with the manuscript’s topic. Both abstract and keywords should be presented in Spanish and English

Bibliographic Reviews. A brief abstract (between 200 and 250 words) should be included, that indicates the manuscript’s content, which should be structured as follows: Objective, Materials&Methods, Results and Conclusions. Following the abstract, between 3 and 6 keywords should be cited. They should be clearly related with the manuscript’s topic. Both abstract and keywords should be presented in Spanish and English

Funding

Authors should declare whether their work has been funded as part of a research project or by any other means.

Acknowledgements

People or institutions contributing to the manuscript will be mentioned.

 

REFERENCES STYLE GUIDE

All manuscripts should adjust to the following guidelines:

 

  • Quotes exceeding 5 lines should be separated from the text and a gap should be left before and after them.
  • Centuries should be written in small capitals.
  • In quotes separated from the text the full stop should be placed before the bibliographical data as in the following example:

 

«Esto significó que el dominio sexual fue (…) localizado bajo la regla de lo normal y lo patológico donde el domino patológico requería intervenciones terapéuticas o de normalización». (Foucault, 1998, pp. 67-68)

Citations

Generally, references should be placed within the text as in the following examples:

 

  • Según apunta Busquets (2010), «[...]». / Merton (2009) indica que «[…]».
  • Estas observaciones están de acuerdo con las de Velazquez (1979, 2011)
  • Las observaciones de este estudio se encuentran también en otros trabajos (véase, por ejemplo, Weber et al., 2007, p. 125).

  • Authors’ surnames should be written in small capitals.
  • DOI or ISBN are optional.
  • Electronic documents should include the date of consultation

Tables

Tables should be numbered according to the order of appearance within the manuscript. The tile should be placed in the bottom part of it and there should be any necessary explanatory footnotes.

Figures

High-resolution images are required. If there are recognizable people appearing in them, authorization for publication will be required. For those images that are extracted from books, websites, and so on, the copyright should be checked and the appropriate authorization will be required, if necessary. All figures should have a legend and be numbered according to the order of appearance within the manuscript.

Abbreviations and Symbols

It is recommended to avoid using them, but if used, they should adjust to the international existing nomenclature.
