Sound Art and the Ecosophical Object: Some Aesthetico-Ontological Remarks on Machinic Productivity

Abstract

When confronted with the problem of chaos and meaning in the context of the production of subjectivity, sound art emerges time and again as a privileged space for the rearrangement and production of new subjective consistencies. Faced with the processes of increasing subjective homogenization of late capitalism, the sonic imagination, in the centre of an ontological tension between the dissolution of meaning and its structural and phantasmatic redundancy, allows us to carry on “turning over the ground”. We have thus tried to explore sound art as collective enunciation, as a form of excess that goes well beyond the human realm and into the machinic plane of consistency, and we have done this through the prism of a-signifying semiotics. The conclusion we have reached is that of the need for a non-humanist, trans-species, machinic comprehension of sound art and its collective assemblage.

Matías Rodríguez-Mouriño, Universidade de Santiago de Compostela / Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

Matías G. Rodríguez-Mouriño es investigador post-doctoral Margarita Salas en la Universitat Pompeu Fabra y profesor-tutor en la UNED (Barcelona). Historiador del arte y doctor en Filosofía, es el autor de más de una veintena de publicaciones, incluyendo artículos, capítulos de libro y piezas críticas, con especial atención al estudio del paisaje sonoro, el arte sonoro y la ciudad. Es igualmente autor de O menor: Procesos a-significantes na arte contemporánea, obra en prensa resultado del Premio CGAC de Investigación e Ensaio sobre Arte Contemporánea. En la actualidad, desarrolla su proyecto post-doctoral titulado «Paisajes sonoros - Comunes urbanos», dedicado al análisis y propuestas de solución de cara a una ecología sonora urbana más sostenible y democrática, desde el punto de vista de la Agenda 2030 y los ODS 11 (Ciudades y comunidades sostenibles) y 13 (Acción por el clima). Asimismo, y bajo la dirección de Federico L. Silvestre, participa en el proyecto de investigación «Paisajes y arquitecturas del error. Contra-historia del paisaje en la Europa latina (1945-2020) (DEPARQ)» (PID2020-112921GB-I00).
