About the Journal

Focus and scope

SVMMA. Revista de Cultures Medievals aims to highlight, and make available to the interested public, the important body of work that is produced regularly on the various aspects of medieval European culture.

The set of multidisciplinary threads that converge in this complex and dense centre that we call the Middle Ages is virtually infinite. From SVMMA we propose to contribute to spreading the knowledge of all those that the capacity of our editors and collaborators allows us to investigate. In the well-understood that we count from now on with everyone who would like to contribute with new elements in this immense and exciting field of study and research, from which our society can gain more awareness of its roots and of their cultural identity.

SVMMA is a magazine aimed at specialists who are interested in the Middle Ages, especially in the following fields of study of the medieval world: Archaeology, Palaeography, Archival Science, Philology, Philosophy, History, Art History, Diplomacy and Literature.

The submitted articles must be original and unpublished, and related to research or synthesis of a more extensive investigation. It should be written in any of the following languages: Catalan, Spanish, French, English, Italian and Portuguese.

The magazine is published every six months in spring and autumn and has the following sections: Editorial, Tribune, Articles, Reviews and Library. The autumn issue includes a section called News and every four issues the List of evaluators is also published.

Expert evaluation process

The original texts, once accepted by the editorial team, will be evaluated by blind peer review. When this review starts, we consider it the beginning of the revision process. The expert evaluators will be assigned by the members of the editorial committee according to their expertise and they will also be external to the journal. Reviewers will have a review form that will facilitate their work and standardize their suggestions and conclusions. The number of reviewers per article assigned is two, however, if necessary, the report of a third evaluator can be requested.

Based on the experts' reports, the editorial team will decide whether the article is accepted or not or if necessary, may propose changes to the author for its improvement. They will be notified if the article is accepted, rejected or accepted but requires additional changes.

Once the articles have been definitively accepted and before their publication, the authors will receive a file in PDF format for their final review, which must be returned within a week. Major modifications cannot be made.

The review process lasts approximately six months.

The other sections of the journal will not participate in the evaluation process, however, reviews will be revised by the editorial team prior to publication.
