Abstract

This paper reflects on the most important controversies about the role of intellectuals throughout the Franco regime and, in particular, in the sixties. It analyses the complex ideological families of the rightist sectors of Spanish society, the many controversies and debates about the possible and varied continuities and ruptures of the Spanish liberal tradition, starting from the nineteenth century, through the Franco dictatorship and up to the democratic era. During the Franco dictatorship, there came about ideological changes and developments in the intellectual world that establish the ruptures and continuities around the liberal tradition and its influences, whether Spanish or international.
