Young People, Intellectuals and Falangists: Notes on the Process of Rupture with the Dictatorship in the Sixties

The following text focuses on the sectors of young university students educated during the Franco dictatorship, especially between the mid-1950s and -60s which from Phalangist beginnings evolved to adopt critical positions and opposition to the regime. The contradictions arising in these areas respond to the direction taken by Franco’s dictatorship, which had pushed aside the original Phalangist influence to the benefit of other sectors such as those defending an “opusdeísta” project which was very different from the original Phalangist ideology. In these areas, there was to be some cultural effervescence, with many publications, a reflection of criticism of the dictatorship and influenced by revolutionary Phalangist approaches and even the Third World national liberation movements that demanded substantial change of the regime.Downloads
