Abstract

This article refers to Josep Maria Trias Peitx, member of Democratic Union of Catalonia since its inception, who had an important political role during the Spanish Civil War and the early years of exile in France. His actions stood out during the conflict to save the persecuted for reasons of conscience in the Catalonia rearguard and for negotiations between the Republic and the Vatican. In the early years of exile he focused his efforts on helping thousands of Catalan and Spanish refugees to get out of camps and, at the gates of the return of democracy, he still took part in the first international congress of UDC after the dictatorship.
