Abstract

The aim of this article is to study the importance of the archive
as a tool for building a national identity and whether through its
organization it can be seen if this national construction has been successful
or not. In this sense, we take the example of the National Historical Archive
of Spain, and analyze it from the organization of the first archives in
Spanish territory to the construction of the National Historical Archive at
the end of the 19th century. This analysis also highlights the role that history
played in shaping national identity and its interrelation with archives.
Indeed, one science could not exist without the other.
