Polyphony in Igiaba Scego i Léonora Miano
A narrative weapon to recover political speech

This article aims to compare the work of two writers who both belong to “postcolonial literature” and are of the same generation: the Italian-Somali author Igiaba Scego (b. 1974), and the French-Cameroonian author Léonora Miano (b. 1973). The weight of colonial domination is an omnipresent theme in the two texts we have chosen to analyze: Crépuscule du tourment by Miano and Oltre Babilonia by Scego. Our intention is to explore the capacity of these texts, and their power to constitute themselves as “counter-narratives” thanks to the mechanism of polyphony which is inseparable from an écriture de l’intime.
