Psychometric Properties of a Questionnaire to Evaluate the Competence Development of Socio-Emotional Self-Leadership in Online Modality of Higher University Education

Abstract

This article presents the validation of a Self-Leadership instrument consisting of Emotional Competencies for university students that interact online. The design and contrast of its psychometric properties allows to place each student’s level and to think on further possibilities for personal growth, complementing the progress in technical competences, and therefore reaching a holistic training. In the construction of the questionnaire, items from existing reference instruments have been adapted; it was completed by 706 people (372 woman and 334 man). The exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis reveal a four-factor model; Online Social Awareness; Online Emotional Regulation, Online Empathy and Online Teamwork. The internal consistency obtained in Cronbach’s α is adequate for the entire instrument, as well as for each of its constitutive factors.
