Abstract

The figure of the Muse runs through western literature and
philosophy, and in this essay I make my own particular search
for the Muse with the help of women who have done the same in
their works: Ana Luísa Amaral (1956-2022), Cristina Peri Rossi
(1941-), May Sarton (1912-1995), Virginia Woolf (1912-1941),
Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (1648-1695) and Emily Dickinson
(1830-1886). Within this journey with the writers, I devote
my attention and affection to the connection between women
and this presence linked to notions of divinity of an inherently
female figure who reigns over the symbolic of poetic and artistic
inspiration.
