This article proposes for the very first time the description of the documents regarding the Causa General applied to the Balearic Islands. This cause was started in 1940 by the Fiscalía General del Estado in all the provinces of Spain. The Cause General wanted to know about the violence and repression in the Republican zone during the Spanish Civil War with different purposes like propagandizing, assisting victims and their relatives and, obviously, persecuting and punishing the suspects —a common practice under the Franco system. The author presents some important economic and social aspects in the study of the Spanish Civil War and its consequences in the Balearics.
