Austria en la orden del Toisón de Oro, siglos XVI-XVII
Abstract
This paper aims to study aristocratic figures in the Austrian, Bohemian and Hungarian territories who belonged to the Order of the Golden Fleece throughout the 16th and 17th Century. Given that since Charles I a Spanish king was sovereign of the order, the analysis of aristocrats shows the degree of contact between the Imperial court’s governing circles and that of the Spanish court. The number of Austrians and Bohemians in the order was very low during the 16th century, it increased considerably during the Thirty Year War and even more so during the reign of Leopold I. Concessions fundamentally beneficiated a small number of families from countries with noble lineage.
