La Marca Hispanica de Pierre de Marca y Ëtienne Baluze a través de sus tres momentos de composición (1648-1650, 1660, 1688): de 'ilustración' humanista a colección documental
Keywords:
Marca Hispanica, Catalonia, historiography, Pierre de Marca.Abstract
As it was published in 1688, Pierre de Marca and Étienne Baluze’s Marca Hispanica is the result of its working through three successive moments: Marca’s stay in Catalonia as visitador (1644-1651); the negotiations for the Peace of the Pyrenees (1659-1660); and its final printing by Baluze. Each of these phases was influenced by different political and erudite factors. First, Humanist praise to Catalonia as the newly annexed French province; then, historical legitimation of the “historical boundary” between France and Spain; lastly, collection of sources according to the demands of historical criticism.
