Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The article has not been previously published nor is it under review in another journal.
  • The file in which the article is sent has a .doc or .odt format.
  • The spacing of the text is simple, a 12-point font is used and italics are used instead of underlining (except for URL addresses). Illustrations, figures and tables should appear in their proper position and not at the end of the text. Illustrations, images and photographs should be of optimum quality.
  • The text complies with the stylistic and bibliographic referencing requirements established in the "Author Guidelines" section of the "About the journal" page.
  • The article has been properly anonymized. In the case of submitting the text to a section that requires peer review, the article must not contain any reference to the author's name, personal data, institutional affiliation or any other information that reveals the author's identity.
  • URLs for references have been provided whenever possible.
  • A document with the authorship data, independent of the article, has been added.

Author Guidelines

Submission and processing charges
Anuari de Filologia. Estudis de Lingüística does not have either article submission charges nor article processing charges.

Publication Guidelines (for articles and reviews)

1.  Contributions can be written in Catalan, English, or Spanish (exceptionally, papers written in other languages may be accepted). Authors are requested to use an agile style and inclusive language. Authors must also use the style guide of the Universitat de Barcelona (https://www.ub.edu/cub/criteri.php?id=2176).

2.  All submitted material must be original and unpublished.

3.  Contributions should be submitted in electronic format (.doc or .odt, together with a PDF printing).

4.  The text should be presented following the model of the Yearbook of Philology. Please use this document.

5.  Articles should include an abstract in English and in the language of the article (max. 200 words and font size 9) and six key words (in English and in the language of the article).

6.  Originals should be not longer than 30 pages for articles and 5 pages for reviews.

7.  The references in the footnotes should be presented with correlative superscript numbers and always after the punctuation mark. E.G.: ...the nature.2

8.  Quotations should be cited within double quotation marks, and, if a passage is longer than three lines, it must be set off in block form, separated from the body text. If a part of the text is omitted or if there are interpolations, it should be marked with square brackets […]. In no case may abbreviations such as op. cit. or ibid. be used. It is also not possible to use developed forms such as ibidem.

9.  Typographical questions: The use of small capital letters is limited to the author’s surnames in the bibliography. Use bold for titles, headings or chapters of the article, and should be avoided in the main text.

Hyphen will be used for compound words and to indicate the pages in the bibliography and references. The hyphen as an alternative to open parentheses should be followed by a full stop.

The numbers should be indicated with decimal comma (3,15 m) and marked with a point from 1.000 (except years) on words, 1.000.000, etc.

11.  Maps, charts und figures should be in electronic form and included in the body of the text.

12.  The bibliographical references should appear in the body of the text, including the author’s surname in lowercase, followed by the year of publication and pages cited: Chomsky (1986: 122).

13.  All works should include a final bibliography, which contains only the references cited in the body of the text.

Books:

Surname(s), the first name, year of publication in parenthesis. If there is more than one title of the same year it will be distinguished by letters added to the year of publication (e.g. 1989a, 1989b, etc.). The title of the articles/reviews should appear after a comma and in italics, then the city of publication and (after a comma) the name of the publishing house. The editions, except the first one, should be indicated by a superscript number adding the year of publication. The modern edition of an ancient text should be indicated by placing the year of the first publication after the year of the modern edition in brackets. For bibliographical references of translations should the following information be added between parenthesis: (transl. of [translator’s surname (in small letters)] followed by a comma and, after a blank space, the first letter followed by a period and a comma. After that, there should follow the original title of  the work in italics, place of publication, publishing house and year of publication, al separated by commas]:

Electronic texts, databases and software:

Surname, name / name of the responsible entity. Title (in italics) [type of medium]. Place of publication: Publishing house, date of publication, revision date and date of last consultation (obligatory for online documents).

The editorial board will decide, following a report of two or more consultants, the acceptance of the works and the volume where they will be published. Works that do not meet the publication standards, mentioned above, will be returned for modification.

The proofreading may not include significant changes or amendments.
