Abstract

Introduction. Support for stillbirth has undergone important developments during the last decade, highlighting the care during childbirth and farewell. To facilitate the farewell, the postmortem contact favoured by cold cots is important since it decreases the signs of deterioration and provides time for families. Aim. To carry out a review of the scientific evidence from recent years about the use of cold cots and their contribution in the development of perinatal grief. Methods. Bibliographic review in the main databases, where a total of eight articles were found and analysed, four of which were included in the study. Results. The studies included examine the experience of health professionals and families with the use of cold cots. These are perceived as positive, keep the body in good condition, and offer time for mourning and the development of the family bond and union. Conclusions. Few studies analyse the use of cold cots, so more research is needed. Their use is perceived as beneficial by both professionals and families. Protocols on the use of these systems are needed, as well as training for health professionals using the cold cot to learn how to use them and how to accompany in the perinatal grief. We recommend its implementation.
