The purpose of this article is to make known the Projecte Almirall through a brief analysis of the reception of European Romantic literature in the Ateneu Barcelonès library, a cultural centre of great importance in Barcelona during the last third of the 19th century. German, French, English and Italian literatures have been taken into account as the most representative, and their most important authors and works have been listed.
