Abstract

A reflection upon the nature of historical work in the world today, from the academic perspective, of the civic responsability of the historian regarded as an intellectual and as the creator of a cultural product for the market. The current period, one of weakness of civic commitments, deep individualization, and of a crisis of historical reason as an explanation of reality, makes such reconsiderations obligatory. The article presents a historical overview of the process that has led us to the current situation.
